مَاwhat ليfor me ولمصرَand with Egypt لاسقاهاmay He not water it ربِّيmy Lord
مَا لي ولمصرَ لاسقاها ربِّي
غيثاًrain غدَقاًabundant مِنfrom سارياتِthose traveling by night السُّحبِthe clouds
غيثاً غدَقاً مِن سارياتِ السُّحبِ
What have I to do with Egypt? May my Lord never water it
What have I to do with Egypt? May my Lord not water it
with copious rain from the coursing clouds.
With abundant rain from the night-traveling clouds.
بالرُّوحِwith the soul دخلتُهاI entered it وبالقلبِand with the heart فلاso not
بالرُّوحِ دخلتُها وبالقلبِ فلا
بالرُّوحِwith the soul خرجتُI left لاno ولاnor بالقلبِwith the heart
بالرُّوحِ خرجتُ لا ولا بالقلبِ
I entered it with soul and heart; but
I entered it with my soul and heart; but not
I left with neither soul nor heart.
With my soul did I leave—no, nor with my heart.
