O lightning, turn aside without weariness

at dawn, to the valley of al-Nayrayyin.

And how many pairs of gardens it holds,

    encircled by two Kawthar streams!

And two singers upon the heights

of its trees, and two cloaked ones,

at the wedding of the gardens' blossoms,

    the two dance together, clapping.

And a leafy grove, proud of

its swaying step, in two robes,

    both ornamented [unclear], both arrow-patterned,

    both dirham-patterned, both dinar-patterned,

    unveiled for you like brides,

in full view, for every eye.

How often its gazelle has poured us—the

healing one—the choicest wine from two palms,

between the basil of the sideburns

and the saffron-like dye of both cheeks' roses.

I would ransom him—a moon that came to be,

when it appeared, in two Scorpios:

    in two black ones, white-stockinged,

    and two white ones, rose-tinted.

And he has a smooth cheek whose musk

has spread through two camphor-white cheeks.

O lightning, pass by his tent's awning

    twice each day.

And when you ride from the clouds

on two black steeds equipped with polo mallets,

then break the two seals of two rainclouds,

    both musk-scented, both ambergris-scented;

and embroider with the pens of the rain—

early-autumn rain—the border of the two Ghoutas.
