Leave my eyelids and the streaming tears

    behind those departing camel mounts.

And seek patience from someone other than me, for my patience

is wholly in the secluded chambers of those canopies.

Do not drive the mounts, O driver of the pale

camels, past the sanctuary's tents—I implore you by God.

And be gentle with them, for in the encampment of the

people is a young gazelle, clad in a robe of beauty.

Full of coquetry—against him, from his two cheeks,

I have witnesses and proofs that he has slain me.

Whenever he tired of me, I made loving him

a religion and creed for myself alone among mankind.

All my time was wasted in loving him,

in 'perhaps he will,' 'if only he would,' and 'maybe he will.'

    خلِّ النُّصحَ ما أَنا قابِلٌ له

    Do not deepen my love for him, O my reproacher;

leave counsel aside; I will not accept it.

For my heart is bleeding, and my tears are flowing,

and my sickness is growing, and my heart is distraught with love.
