لو كنتَ في دعوَى المحبَّةِ تصدُقُ

لو كنتَ في دعوَى المحبَّةِ تصدُقُ

ما كانَ قلبكَ ساكناً لا يَخفِقُ

If you were truthful in your claim of love,

If you were truthful in your claim of love,

Your heart would not lie still, without throbbing.

Your heart would not be still, it would flutter.

لا تدَّعِ ولَهاً وقلبُك فارغٌ

لا تدَّعِ ولَهاً وقلبُك فارغٌ

منَّا وأنتَ بغيرنا متعلِّقُ

منَّا وأنتَ بغيرنا متعلِّقُ

Do not claim passionate longing while your heart is empty

Do not pretend, while your heart is empty

Of us, while you are attached to someone other than us.

Of us, as you cling to others.

نزِّه مَواطنَ مثلِنا عن غيرِنا

نزِّه مَواطنَ مثلِنا عن غيرِنا

واقبِل فأنتَ بنا أَحقُّ واليقُ

واقبِل فأنتَ بنا أَحقُّ واليقُ

Keep the abodes of those like us free of anyone else,

Keep pure the places of those like us from others,

And come forward, for you are more deserving of us and better suited to us.

And welcome us, for you have the greatest right to do so.

لو جالَ فيكَ هوىَ المحبَّةِ ساعةً

لو جالَ فيكَ هوىَ المحبَّةِ ساعةً

ما كنتَ تطلًُبنا وأنتَ مُعوقُ

ما كنتَ تطلًُبنا وأنتَ مُعوقُ

If love's passion had coursed through you for an hour,

If the passion of love moved within you but an hour,

You would not be seeking us while held back.

You would seek us, though you are hindered.

ولقد كرهتُ العيشَ بعدَ بِعادكمِ

ولقد كرهتُ العيشَ بعدَ بِعادكمِ

ما في الحياةِ إذا بعُدتُم رَونَقُ

ما في الحياةِ إذا بعُدتُم رَونَقُ

And indeed, I have loathed life since parting from you;

And I have hated life since you went far from me,

Life has no splendor when you are far away.

For when you are distant, life has no charm.
