منfrom هَواكُمlove for you فُؤادُهُhis heart ماdoes not يُفيقُrecover
وَبكُمand through you قَلُبهُhis heart الأَسيرُcaptive طَليقُfree
His heart never recovers from love of you.
He whose heart is enamored with you does not awake
And through you, his captive heart is free.
And because of you his captive heart is set free
أَنتمُyou عِندهُwith him فَمَاso not هَاجهُstirred him البَرthe lightning (first fragment)
قُlightning (final fragment) إِليكُمtoward you ولاnor سَبَاهُcaptivated him العَقِيقُal-ʿAqīq
You are with him; no lightning has stirred him
You are to him so the land did not stir him
toward you, nor has al-ʿAqīq captivated him.
He journeyed to you and nor did carnelian motivate him
وَثراكُمand your dust لناfor us المَسَاجِدُplaces of prostration مِنهُfrom it
وَلعينَيهِand for his eyes إِثمِدُantimony kohl وَخُلُوقُand saffron perfume
And from your dust come our places of prostration,
And for us your presence made the mosques
and for his eyes it is antimony kohl and saffron perfume.
A place for his dimmed eyes and his devotion
وَلَكُمand for you حَجَّةٌa pilgrimage كماas النُّسكِthe sacred rites فالسَّعso the ritual striving (first fragment)
يُstriving (final fragment) إِليكُمtoward you والرَّميُand the stone-casting والتَّشرِيقُand the Tashrīq rites
And there is a pilgrimage to you, as in the sacred rites; the ritual striving
And you have an obligation just as the ritual and hastening
is toward you, as are the stone-casting and the rites of Tashrīq.
To you, and the casting and the cries of Allahu Akbar
وتَراكُمand it sees you عَينُthe eye الضَّميرِthe inner heart فَتُغضِيthen it lowers its gaze
هَيبةًin awe منof جَلالِكُمyour majesty وتَتُوقُand it yearns
And the eye of the heart sees you, then lowers its gaze
And the eye of conscience sees you and lowers
in awe of your majesty, and yearns.
Its gaze in awe of your tremendousness and avoids
أَنتُمُyou بالذيabout what جَرَىhas passed فيwithin ضَمِيريmy inner heart
مِنهُthan it أَدرَىknow better إِذاwhen اعتَرَاهُovertook it خُفُوقُthrobbing
You know what has passed within my heart
You are what flowed into my conscience
better than it does, when throbbing overtakes it.
More knowing when it was stirred with yearning
وَحَدِيثيand my speech بِكُمabout you قَدِيمٌancient وَحتَّىand even
كَحَديثيlike my speech لَكِنَّهُbut it is مَخلُوقُcreated
And my speech about you is ancient, and even
And my discourse about you is longstanding yet
like my speech, yet it is created.
Unlike my discourse it is created
