God bless your poetry, O Baligh, for I

Have let my gaze roam the gardens of its artistry.

Harmoniously proportioned, it gathers eloquence entire

Within its two ends, between his artistry and his beneficence.

Even the deaf man listens to the vigor of its wording,

And the water of excellence overflows in its varied forms.

The literary arts are evident in it, part by part,

And shine plainly across its gathered whole.

In it there is no need for prosody, for we

Are guided by its soundness to its scansion.

O you who clothe me in robes of praise, embroidering them,

And all of them, by God, are part of his cast-off raiment.

You granted me favors; I shall repay them with praise

For you, from one versed in the beauty of his artistry:

Like pearls in its jeweled setting, and musk in

Its wafting fragrance, and a striped mantle in its patterned weave.

And poetry is too noble for there to stand, misguidedly,

In verse, its limping practitioner in the place of its master.

All excellence is with you, and within it

Is what was in bloom in the season of its spring.

So may you remain exalted in eminence; there is no glory but

What is transmitted from you in the lofty accounts you relate.
