بِنُظمك هذا العِلم زادَ اِبتَهاجَه

بِنُظمك هذا العِلم زادَ اِبتَهاجَه

وَمِن ذِهنِكَ الوَقاد ضاء سَراجُه

وَمِن ذِهنِكَ الوَقاد ضاء سَراجُه

Through your verse, this science's delight has grown.

With your composition this knowledge increased its joy

And from your brilliant mind its lamp has shone.

And from your mind the kindling, its lamp shone

وَمتن السنوسيّ الَّذي قَد نظمته

وَمتن السنوسيّ الَّذي قَد نظمته

وَحَرّرته قَد زالَ عَنهُ اِعوِجاجَه

وَحَرّرته قَد زالَ عَنهُ اِعوِجاجَه

And al-Sanusi's text, which you have versified

And the text of Sahnun which you have composed

and refined, has been freed of its crookedness.

And elucidated, its crookedness has gone

وَزينَت هذا الدين بِالنُظم فَاِنثَنى

وَزينَت هذا الدين بِالنُظم فَاِنثَنى

يُنادي اِفتِخارا زين الدين تاجَه

يُنادي اِفتِخارا زين الدين تاجَه

And you adorned this faith with verse, so it turned

And you have adorned this religion with composition so it bent

to proclaim proudly: 'Its crown, Taj, is the faith's adornment!'

Proclaiming pride, the ornament of the religion, its crown

وَفَنّ أَصول الدين عالَجت ضُعفُه

وَفَنّ أَصول الدين عالَجت ضُعفُه

بِتَجريد مَعناه فَصح مَزاجَه

بِتَجريد مَعناه فَصح مَزاجَه

And you treated the weakness of the science of faith's foundations,

And the origins of religion you have treated its weakness

by distilling its meaning, so its constitution grew sound.

By elucidating its meaning, so its constitution is sound

وَقَد كانَ هذا الدين صَعبا ممنعا

وَقَد كانَ هذا الدين صَعبا ممنعا

وَلكن بِهذا النظم هان عِلاجَه

وَلكن بِهذا النظم هان عِلاجَه

And this faith had been difficult and inaccessible,

And this religion had been difficult, prevented

but through this verse its treatment became easy.

But with this composition, its treatment is light

وَكانَ بِهِ سوق التَعَلم كاسِدا

وَكانَ بِهِ سوق التَعَلم كاسِدا

وَلكِنَّهُ الآن اِستَمَرّ رَواجَه

وَلكِنَّهُ الآن اِستَمَرّ رَواجَه

And the market for learning it had been stagnant,

And the market of learning had been stagnant

but now its brisk trade continues.

But now its circulation continues outright

تَأَمّلت فيه فَاِبتَهَجت بِحُسنِهِ

تَأَمّلت فيه فَاِبتَهَجت بِحُسنِهِ

وَزادَ اِبتِهاجي نَهجه وَاِزدِواجه

وَزادَ اِبتِهاجي نَهجه وَاِزدِواجه

I reflected on it and rejoiced in its beauty,

I examined it and was gladdened by its beauty

and its method and paired structure increased my delight.

And my gladness increased by its method and pairing

عَلَيكَ بِهذا الفَنّ فَالمَرءُ دينه

عَلَيكَ بِهذا الفَنّ فَالمَرءُ دينه

يَزيد بِهِ نوارا وَيَقوى اِحتِجاجَه

يَزيد بِهِ نوارا وَيَقوى اِحتِجاجَه

Hold fast to this discipline, for a person's faith

Upon you is this art for one's religion

grows more radiant through it, and his argument gains strength.

Increases by it light and strengthens its argument

فَهذا هُوَ البَحرُ الَّذي مَن أَتى اِلى

فَهذا هُوَ البَحرُ الَّذي مَن أَتى اِلى

مَوارِدِهِ يَحلو اِلَيهِ أَجاجَه

مَوارِدِهِ يَحلو اِلَيهِ أَجاجَه

For this is the sea where whoever comes to

For this is the sea one who comes

its watering places finds its bitter brine sweet.

To its springs, its brackishness is sweetened

عَلى مِثلِهِ فَاليَنفق المَرءُ عُمره

عَلى مِثلِهِ فَاليَنفق المَرءُ عُمره

فَقَد جَمَعت كُل الاِصول فَجاجَه

فَقَد جَمَعت كُل الاِصول فَجاجَه

On the like of it, let a person spend his lifetime,

Upon its like should one spend their life

for its broad paths have gathered all the principles.

For you have gathered all the origins, unadulterated

وَاِنا لِنَرجو وافِر الاِجر الَّذي

وَاِنا لِنَرجو وافِر الاِجر الَّذي

عَلى يَدِهِ هذا النَظام نَتاجَه

عَلى يَدِهِ هذا النَظام نَتاجَه

And we surely hope for abundant reward for the one

And we hope for abundant reward

by whose hand this verse was produced.

Through this system and its outcome

بِهِ الدَعوات المُستَجابات تَجتَنى

بِهِ الدَعوات المُستَجابات تَجتَنى

وَتَجبى لِتاج الدينِ فَهي خَراجه

وَتَجبى لِتاج الدينِ فَهي خَراجه

Through it, answered prayers are harvested

Through it the answered prayers are harvested

and collected for Taj al-Din, for they are his tribute.

And collected for the crown of religion, so it's his revenue
