[A pledge] through the ages: you shall not be defeated.

For victory sprouts where blood is shed.

Where blood is shed wantonly, be certain

That you shall live through blood and grow great.

You seek independence? That is its path!

And indeed you have taken the path; so press onward.

That neither fears death nor holds back.

Indeed, immortality is within reach of those who can endure.

So let seekers of immortality go forth and advance.

A homeland is parceled out as a gift to the intruder.

Then why, after this, should anyone hold back?

The East—oh, the East! That is its blood.

And the West—oh, the West! Blood makes it fiercer.

The East—alas for the East! How they have violated

Its great sanctities, and how they have attacked!

The drowsiness of sleep deceived them, and they deluded themselves!

Oh, what cleverness! How, then, did it deceive them?

A drowse—and it passed, and the sleepers awoke.

So let them know who we are—or remain unaware!

Today, let them lap up blood; and tomorrow,

Let them regret it—when it is too late for regret.

Heroes of independence, this is a greeting

From Egypt, sent by a brimming heart.

Our brothers, in the present and in what follows alike,

Our brothers in what delights and what causes pain.

Egypt the maiden—and she remains young—

Yearns toward you with her hearts and grows great.

At every ascent and every mountain pass,

A fire from the youthful East shall be kindled.
