بأنّby saying that الهوىlove طبعٌan innate disposition ولاand not يُنقَلُis changed الطبعُinnate nature
The reproachers closed in on me until I turned them away
They surrounded me with advice until I repelled them
by saying that love is innate, and nature cannot be changed.
By saying that passion is an innate nature that cannot be changed
رأَواthey saw كلَّall ماthat أبصرتُهI beheld it أناI عاشقٌin love
وماand what تسمعhear الأذنانِthe two ears ليسthere is no لهfor it نفعُbenefit
They saw that I was in love with everything I beheld,
They saw that I was a lover of all that I saw
and that what the ears hear was of no avail.
And what the two ears hear is of no use
فقالواso they said وقلبيwhile my heart ليسdoes not يقبلَaccept نصحَهمtheir advice
أخوناour brother لهfor him عينٌan eye وليسbut there is no لهfor him سمعُhearing
So they said—my heart would not accept their advice—
So they said while my heart would not accept their advice
“Our brother has an eye, but he has no hearing.”
Our brother has an eye but has no hearing
