  1. نظرت وطرف العين يتبع الهوى

    بشرقي بصرى نظرة المتطاول

    I gazed, my eyes following my longing,

    from the eastern side of Bosra, with the gaze of one straining to see,

  2. لأبصر ناراً أوقدت بعد هجعةٍ

    لريا بذات الرمث من بطن حائل

    to glimpse a fire kindled after a spell of sleep

    for Rayya at Dhat al-Ramth, in the valley of Ha’il.
