بِالأَبلَقِin al-Ablaq الفَردِthe peerless بَيتيmy home بِهِin it
وَبَيتُand the dwelling المَصيرِof the final destination سِوىother than الأَبلَقِal-Ablaq
In peerless al-Ablaq—there is my home.
With the lone white dome my house I built,
And my final dwelling is other than al-Ablaq:
While the house of fate's beside the white dome.
بِبَلقَعَةٍin a barren waste أَثبَتَتit set firmly حُفرَةًa pit
ذِراعَينِtwo cubits فيby أَربَعٍfour خَيسَقِnarrow
In a barren waste, where a pit is set,
With a small jug it created a hole,
Two cubits by four, narrow.
Two arm spans in four worn out.
فَلاso not أَدفَعُI turn away الضَيفَthe guest عَنfrom رِزقِهِhis sustenance
لَدَيَّwith me إِذاwhen قيلَit is said لَمnot يُرزَقِhe is provided for
So I do not deny a guest his sustenance
So I don't turn the guest from his fate,
With me, when it is said he has not been fed.
If it's said, "He went unprovisioned."
وَفيand in البَيتِthe house ضَخماءُa huge vessel مَملوأَةٌfilled
وَجَفنٌand a bowl عَلىover هَمِعٍfreely flowing liquid مُدهَقِpoured abundantly
And in the house is a huge, filled vessel,
And in the house are large vessels filled,
And a bowl with a plentiful, overflowing draught.
And an eyelid over a reddened bleary eye.
I lodge for the night الَّذيthe one who قَدalready أَتىhas come عادِياًhastening

I lodge the one who has come hastening,
I shelter the one who came to me customary,
And a company clad in gray ring-mail.
Alive from the most verdant of throats.
