For whom do I spin poetry perfumed with intimate whispers?

If it is not about eyes like yours, O Arwa!

If it is not for serenity, for roses, for dew,

For my heart's pulse, for letters, for the one I love?

The expanse narrows before my eyes, O my little one,

And when I see your eyes, I leave it wide open.

Sorrows besiege me on every side,

And for the sake of this face, I swallow my complaint!

I see in children's visions an army of love,

And one like me cannot withstand the "army of longing".

I see the universe around me as sunrise and joy,

A song that coos to me and fills me with pride.

And I read the secrets of childhood, seeking

An answer, and yet the meaning is not clear to me.

And childhood's innocence remains in my blood,

Poems renewed whenever they are recited.

And how many dewy hearts the world grinds down,

And plants sorrow and solace in their shade.

And yet in love my heart is a poet's heart:

When it perceives longings, it overlooks them absentmindedly.
