تحيرwas bewildered قلبيmy heart منwhom يحبloves ومنand whom يسلوceases to love
ومنand who هيshe منfrom دونto the exclusion of العذارىthe maidens لهfor it أهلworthy
My heart is bewildered: whom to love, and whom to forget?
My heart is confused, who loves and who consoles
And who, of all the maidens, is worthy of it?
And who is she, other than the virgins, for him a family
ولوand if كانwere قلبيmy heart جلمداa hard rock لأراحنيit would surely relieve me
وجنبيand would spare me ماwhat دونهless than it النارfire والقتلand slaughter
And were my heart a rock, it would give me rest,
If my heart were frozen, it would give me rest
And spare me what surpasses fire and slaughter.
And spare me what's other than it, fire and murder
ولكنهbut it قلبىmy heart وقلبيand my heart خميلةa grove
يبابيةbarren الأغصانthe branches ليسthere is no لهاfor it ظلshade
But it is my heart, and my heart is a grove,
But it is my heart, and my heart is a vine
With barren branches, offering no shade.
Of swaying branches that cast no shade
علىyet أنthat فيهwithin it منof ندىdew الحبlove قطرةa drop
يهيمyearns بهاfor it الصاديthe thirsty one ويزكوand flourishes بهاthrough it المحلُthe barren land
Yet within it is a drop of love's dew,
Yet in it is a drop of the dew of love
For which the thirsty one yearns, and through which barren land flourishes.
That makes the wanderer crazed and the abode flourish
