Sol 6.1

  1. أنا الحائر يا نجوى

    أمانيَّ أنا الحائر

    I am the bewildered one, O whisper

    Of my hopes; I am the bewildered one.

  2. أنا الصامت يا سحر

    ليالي أنا الثائر

    I am the silent one, O enchantment

    Of my nights; I am the rebel.

  3. أنا الصارخ يا غنو

    ة أحلامي أنا الصابر

    I am the one who cries out, O song

    Of my dreams; I am the patient one.

  4. أنا الساحر يا رقي

    ية أسقامي أنا الساخر

    I am the sorcerer, O healing charm

    For my ailments; I am the mocker.

  5. أنا المقهور في الحب

    وبالحب أنا القاهر

    I am the one subdued in love,

    And through love I am the conqueror.

  6. وأنت الجدول المنسا

    ب في صحراء أيامي

    And you are the stream flowing

    Through the desert of my days.

  7. تهدهد موجه الغافي

    أغاريدي وأنغامي

    Its slumbering waves are lulled

    By my songs and my melodies.

  8. وترقص في ثناياه

    جراح فؤادي الدامي

    And within its folds dance

    The wounds of my bleeding heart.

  9. تلقن رمله النعسا

    ن أسطورة آلامي

    They teach its drowsy sands

    The legend of my suffering.

  10. ففيه أُذيبُ اسقامي

    ومنه أعبّ أسقامي

    For in it I dissolve my ailments,

    And from it I drink deeply of my ailments.

  11. أنا الطير الذي أضنا

    هُ إعصار المقادير

    I am the bird exhausted

    By the whirlwind of fate,

  12. وألقى نايه المقرو

    ر في تيه السمادير

    And its cold-stricken flute was cast

    Into the wilderness of dizzy visions.

  13. فذابت في حنايا صم

    ته الداجي مزاميري

    So, in the folds of its silence,

    Dark as night, my pipes melted away.

  14. بربك إن سمعت صدا

    ه يا بنت الأساطير

    By your Lord, if you hear its echo,

    O daughter of legends,

  15. فهبي وارحمي أجفا

    نه الظمأى إلى النور

    Then rise and pity its eyelids,

    Thirsting for the light.

  16. إخالك حين ألقاك

    حنيناً صيغ إنسانا

    I imagine you, when I meet you,

    As yearning cast in human form.

  17. فأحيي فيك تحنانا

    وأفنى فيك ألحانا

    So I bring tender yearning to life in you,

    And perish in you as melodies.

  18. وأشعل في هشيم اليأ

    س من قربك نيرانا

    And in despair’s dry tinder I kindle

    Fires from your nearness.

  19. وأصهر في لظاها قل

    بي المنساب أحزانا

    And in their blaze I melt my heart,

    Flowing forth as sorrows.

  20. وأجعل روحي الزو

    رق والأشجان ريّانا

    And I make my soul the boat,

    And sorrows fully quenched.

  21. وقفتُ عليك ألحاني

    وسيكبَ جفنيَ الساهر

    I have dedicated my melodies to you,

    And my sleepless eyelid will pour forth tears.

  22. وقلت لك ارحمي قلبا

    قضى في قبره السائر

    And I said to you: have mercy on a heart

    That died within its walking grave.

  23. فأنت إلهةٌ ألقت

    عليه حكمها الجائر

    For you are a goddess who pronounced

    Her unjust sentence upon it,

  24. وغابت في سماوات

    دلال قاتل قاهر

    And vanished into the heavens

    Of deadly, overpowering coquetry.

  25. وما أنا يابنة الفن

    سوى فنانك الحائر

    And I, O daughter of art, am nothing

    But your bewildered artist.

  26. وأنت الرحمة الكبرى

    وأنت القدر الساخر

    And you are the greatest mercy,

    And you are mocking fate.

  27. وأنت قصيدة الشاع

    ر أنت تميمة الساحر

    And you are the poet’s poem;

    You are the sorcerer’s talisman.

  28. وأنت أنا وما أنا من

    ك إلا همسة الخاطر

    And you are I; of you I am

    Only a whisper of thought.

  29. أنا الروضة والجدب

    أنا السقم أنا الطب

    I am the garden and the drought.

    I am the sickness; I am the cure.

  30. أنا الصياد والطائر

    I am the hunter and the bird.
