ياO حُرَّHurr ، أَمسَىhas now become سَوادُblackness الرّأسِof the head خَالَطَهُhas mingled with it
يا حُرَّ ، أَمسَى سَوادُ الرّأسِ خَالَطَهُ
شَيبُgray hair القَذالِthe back of the head اختلاطَmingling الصَّفوِclarity بالكَدَرِwith murk
شَيبُ القَذالِ اختلاطَ الصَّفوِ بالكَدَرِ
O Hurr, the blackness of my hair has now been mingled
O Hurr, the black hair of my head is now mingled
with gray at the nape, as clarity is mingled with murk.
With gray at the back of the head, as clarity mingles with murk.
ياO حُرَّHurr ، أمسَتْhave now become لُباناتُdesires الصِّباof youth ذَهبَتْgone
يا حُرَّ ، أمسَتْ لُباناتُ الصِّبا ذَهبَتْ
فلَستُso I am not مِنهاof them علىin possession of عَينٍthe thing itself ، ولاnor أَثَرِa trace
فلَستُ مِنها على عَينٍ ، ولا أَثَرِ
O Hurr, the longings of youth have now passed away;
O Hurr, the desires of youth have now departed;
I have neither sign nor trace of them.
So I have nothing of them left, not even a trace.
كانwas الشبابُyouth لحاجاتٍfor needs ، وكنَّand they were لهfor it
كان الشبابُ لحاجاتٍ ، وكنَّ له
فقَدso indeed فَرَغتُI have devoted myself إلىto حاجاتيَmy needs الأُخَرِother
فقَد فَرَغتُ إلى حاجاتيَ الأُخَرِ
Youth belonged to certain pursuits, and they belonged to it;
Youth was for certain needs, and they were for youth;
now I have devoted myself to my other needs.
So now I have devoted myself to my other needs.
