Maʿadd has promised us, though she is lying,

Aid; hers proved to be the promise of ʿUrqūb.

And indeed we advance in battle when it has conceived,

On the day of defending honor, and we protect every man in distress.

He plunges when the horses pass him and he springs at them,

Like a brimming bucket poured down from on high.

Spears with blue heads and red, well-straightened shafts,

Their tips a midday resting place for chieftains.

A defender of honor, whose faltering none need fear,

He makes his foes drink death, not by poisoning.
