لِما أَتَت خَيرَ بَني هاشِمٍ

لِما أَتَت خَيرَ بَني هاشِمٍ

خِلافَةُ اللَهِ بِجُرجانِ

خِلافَةُ اللَهِ بِجُرجانِ

When there came to the best of Hashim’s sons

When the Caliphate of God came to the best of the Hashimites,

God’s caliphate, in Jurjan,

Manifesting its presence in Jurjan,

شَمَّرَ لِلحَزمِ سَرابيلَهُ

شَمَّرَ لِلحَزمِ سَرابيلَهُ

بِرَأيِ لا غُمرٍ وَلا وانِ

بِرَأيِ لا غُمرٍ وَلا وانِ

he tucked up his robes for decisive action,

He girded his robes to meet the resolute hour,

with the judgment of no novice or laggard.

With judgment neither callow nor faint,

لَم يُدخِلِ الشورى عَلى رَأيِهِ

لَم يُدخِلِ الشورى عَلى رَأيِهِ

وَالحَزمُ لا يُمضيهِ رَأيانِ

وَالحَزمُ لا يُمضيهِ رَأيانِ

He admitted no consultation into his judgment,

He admitted no consultation to sway his decree,

and firm resolve is not carried through by two opinions.

For firm resolve is not executed by divided counsels,

أَسرِع في الأَرضِ وَقَد سارَها

أَسرِع في الأَرضِ وَقَد سارَها

يَحكي لَنا سَيرَ سُلَيمانِ

يَحكي لَنا سَيرَ سُلَيمانِ

He sped across the earth, traversing it,

He hastened through the land as he traversed it,

reenacting for us Solomon’s journey.

Recalling to us the journey of Solomon,

كانَت لِذاكَ الريحَ مَأمورَةً

كانَت لِذاكَ الريحَ مَأمورَةً

وَذا عَلى سَفواءَ مِذعانِ

وَذا عَلى سَفواءَ مِذعانِ

For that one, the wind was under command;

For the former, the wind was made subservient,

and this one rode a swift, obedient mule.

While this one rides a swift mount, obedient to the rein.
