Your servant Majdi, from distant lands,

Has offered your eminence exquisite praise,

And congratulated you on the highest rank, of which you are worthy,

With an ancient verse that speaks the truth.

So he said, in defiance of the foes, quoting

It in open congratulations to the marshal:

Your station is too lofty to be described

By an eloquent speaker's words or a fluent speaker's tongue.

So accept from him—may God increase your eminence—

The congratulations of a servant devoted to a sincere adviser.

And encourage him in education with advancement from you,

In keeping with a sound judgment from your eminence.

For that, my lord, would be gracious care from you

For a seeker of knowledge far from his kin.
