يَقصر في تمداحها النظم وَالنَثرُ
You scattered pearls in verse with discernment;
I scattered the pearls in order with wisdom
Verse and prose fall short of praising them.
Poetry and prose fall short in praising them

وَقَد قصرت عَنهُ المطهَّمة الضُمرُ
You mounted a steed whose back is glory and eminence;
I rode a steed whose essence is glory and loftiness
And the finely formed, lean steeds have fallen short of it.
Yet the ambitious fell short of reaching it
