1. ذَهَبوا إِلى أَن المُروءة أَصبَحَت

    تَحتَ الثَرى وَالرَدمِ وَالأَطلالِ

    They held that chivalry had come to lie

    Beneath the soil, the rubble, and the ruins.

  2. فَأَجبتهم كفوا فَإِنَّ مَقالَكُم

    خال عَن التَفصيل وَالإِجمال

    So I answered them: Desist, for your statement

    Is devoid of both detail and summary.

  3. وَتَحققوا أَن المُروءة أَشرَقَت

    أَنوارها بِحسينها المِفضال

    And know for certain that chivalry shines forth,

    Its lights radiant through its bountiful Husayn:

  4. رَب السَماحة وَالمَهارة وَالذَكا

    وَالرَأي وَالتَدبير وَالإِجلال

    Master of generosity, skill, and intelligence,

    And judgment, foresight, and reverence;

  5. بَحر السِياسة وَالكياسة وَالوَفا

    وَالعلم وَالعرفان وَالأَعمال

    A sea of statesmanship, tact, and fidelity,

    And knowledge, understanding, and deeds.

  6. وَمَتى سَمعتم أَو رَأَيتم أَنَّهُ

    قَد نالَها هَولٌ مِن الأَهوال

    And when have you heard or seen that

    A terror among terrors has befallen it,

  7. وَحسين يَرعى عَهدَها وَيجيرها

    مِن ظُلم دَهر قاطع الأَوصال

    While Husayn keeps its covenant and shelters it

    From the tyranny of an age that severs limbs?

  8. وَيذب عَن أَبنائها بِحَماسةٍ

    مَقرونةٍ بِالعز وَالإدلال

    And he defends its children with ardor,

    Joined to might and self-assurance.

  9. وَيَفيض غَيث نَواله في أَرضها

    فَيَزول عَنهُ شدة الإِمحال

    And the rain of his bounty pours upon its land,

    So the severity of drought departs from it.

  10. وَيَجود بِالمال الجَزيل وَبِالندى

    لِجَميع صبيتها مَع الانجال

    And he lavishes abundant wealth and generosity

    On all its young children, along with the offspring.

  11. وَإِذا دَعَى لملمةٍ أَلفيتَه

    ماضي العَزيمة ثابتَ الأَقوال

    And when called upon in a calamity, you find him

    Firm in resolve, steadfast in speech.

  12. وَلَهُ الإِمارة عَن أَبيه وَخاله

    لَيث الحُروب وَفارس الأَبطال

    And his is the emirate, from his father and maternal uncle,

    Lion of wars and knight among heroes.

  13. وَبفهمه المَشهور أَضحى مُفرداً

    بَينَ الوَرى في سائر الأَحوال

    And through his renowned understanding, he has become peerless

    Among humankind, in all circumstances.

  14. وَبحسن منطقه وَفصل خِطابه

    يَنجاب غَيم سَحائب الإشكال

    And through his eloquence and his decisive discourse,

    The haze of perplexity's clouds is dispelled.

  15. وَبلطف منهجه القَويم وَسيره

    في حكمه المتنوّع الأَشكال

    And through the gentleness of his upright path and his conduct

    In his governance, varied in form,

  16. وَعلوّ همته وَطيب حديثه ال

    مشحون بالآيات وَالأَمثال

    And his lofty ambition and the sweetness of his speech,

    Filled with verses and proverbs,

  17. تَحيا رُسوم الفَضل بَعدَ فَنائِها

    وَتَعود بِهجَتِها مَع الأحفال

    The traces of virtue revive after dying out,

    And their splendor returns amid gatherings.

  18. فَاللَه يَحفظه وَيَرفع قَدره

    وَيمدّه بِالنَصر وَالإقبال

    So may God preserve him and raise his rank,

    And support him with victory and good fortune,

  19. وَيَزيده حلماً وَفهماً ثاقِباً

    وَفَراسة وَشَهامة الرئبال

    And increase his forbearance and penetrating understanding,

    And discernment and a lion's valor,

  20. وَمَهابة وَسَكينة وَنجابة

    وَبُلوغ مَأمول وَصدق مَقال

    And majesty, serenity, and nobility,

    And fulfillment of hopes and truthfulness in speech,

  21. وَشَجاعة وَسَعادة بِسياسة

    وَصِيانة وَكَذا حَميد خِصال

    And courage and felicity in statesmanship,

    And protection, and likewise praiseworthy traits,

  22. ما لاحَ في أُفق العُلوم كَواكبٌ

    وَأَضاءَ بَدر في سَماء كَمال

    As long as stars shine on the horizon of the sciences,

    And a full moon shines in the sky of perfection.

  23. وَأَدام بَهجته وَأَيد مَجده

    وَعَلَيهِ أَسبغ فَضله المُتوالي

    And may He prolong his joy and uphold his glory,

    And lavish His continual bounty upon him.
