مَناقب خير الدين صدر المَكارمِ

تجلّ عَن الإحصاء في نظم ناظمِ

تجلّ عَن الإحصاء في نظم ناظمِ

The virtues of Khayr al-Din, foremost in noble deeds,

The virtues of Khayr al-Din, pillar of generosity

Are too great to be numbered in a poet’s verse.

Transcend enumeration in the verse of any poet

وَآراؤه في دَفع كل ملمة

وَآراؤه في دَفع كل ملمة

عَن الدين وَالدُنيا كَوقع الصَوارم

عَن الدين وَالدُنيا كَوقع الصَوارم

And his counsels in warding off every calamity

And his views in warding off every blemish

From faith and worldly life are like the blows of keen swords.

From religion and worldly life like the blow of swords

وَيقظته في الحكم بالعدل يَهتدي

وَيقظته في الحكم بالعدل يَهتدي

بِها كُل مأمور لردّ المَظالم

بِها كُل مأمور لردّ المَظالم

And his vigilance in ruling with justice guides

And his vigilance in ruling justly is guided

Every official toward redressing wrongs.

By it every commander to redress injustices

وَطلعته الغرّا تَلوح كَأَنَّها

وَطلعته الغرّا تَلوح كَأَنَّها

بِتُونس شَمسٌ في سَماء المَحاكم

بِتُونس شَمسٌ في سَماء المَحاكم

And his radiant countenance shines as though it were

And his brilliant rising star that glitters as though

In Tunis, a sun in the sky of the courts.

In Tunis a sun in the sky of tribunals

وَتَأليفه في كل فنّ لَهُ قضى

وَتَأليفه في كل فنّ لَهُ قضى

بِسبق وَتفضيل عَلى كُل عالم

بِسبق وَتفضيل عَلى كُل عالم

And his writing in every discipline has secured for him

And his mastery in every art that he practiced

Precedence and superiority over every scholar.

With precedence and superiority over every sage
