The mouths of lofty honors smile in congratulation,

and the breaths of the spirits of wishes waft like breezes.

And the night of Muhammad Saʿid’s birth

has Fortune as its servant in Egypt for all time.

And how could it be otherwise, when through it the sixth month became

a spring for us, in which mercies pour down?

Oh, how lovely a night, whose benefit reached all,

and from which generous gifts overflowed upon the homelands!

And through it, the promised one attained what no

dreamer ever won for his delight in the pleasure of sleep.

So, for its blessedness among nights, it was judged superior

to a thousand months by a scholar relying on proofs.

And indeed, the presence of its fortunate one added to its excellence,

within it—and he is a lion whose rain is abundant.

So, but for him, no armies would have excelled through organization,

nor would lions among them have crossed through terrors.

And but for him, no arrows would have killed outright, nor would

spears have cleft, nor sharp swords been drawn for a crisis.

And but for him, musket volleys would not have brought death

to a rebel over whom death circles like an eagle.

And but for him, the enemy would not have feared cannons,

whose thunderbolts cause landmarks to vanish.

And but for him, no impregnable fortresses would have been built—

Saʿidian, keeping company with the two Farqad stars.

And but for him, the sword of justice would not have restored

wrongfully seized goods to their owners, despite proud noses.

And does Mars hope that, in war,

when this ruler strikes, any protector can shield him there from his command?

God be with him—what a daring king, upheld

by manifest victory, irresistible in battle!

So, should his figure appear to the champions in a charge,

the old eagles among them would flee, abandoning their chicks.

And if he shouted amid the vast throng,

its Arabs and non-Arabs would lie slain upon the earth.

And if he besieged a well-fortified stronghold, down would tumble

its towers and supports, in awe of him.

And indeed, he has terrified souls even before their union

with their bodies, ever since his amulets were removed.

So may he ever protect Egypt’s realm with a resolve

through which resolute wills rise to the summit of success.

And may the warrior son, his lion cub, ever remain

attended by success in his endeavors.

And may the rejoicings at every birthday never cease,

as banquets for all peoples multiply through them.

And amid them, Glory gestures toward him, marking the date:

The festive seasons were adorned by Saʿid’s birth.
