The honor of offices resides in your noble person.

And you indeed guarantee firmly established glory.

And when the army came beneath the banner,

We said to it: good tidings to you—you are safe.

O gallant one, worth any ransom—eminence

And resolve have their signs and proofs in you.

So when you charge against your foes, they are struck

By what is to come from your polished, keen-edged sword.

And the lion shows affection when he sees you,

Out of his fear, though his heart harbors grudges.

And through your sound judgment in warfare and other matters,

Cities in the lands were conquered for Egypt.

And Crete took pride in the noblest birth,

Exalted and noble, accompanied by good fortune.

And Egypt has abundant good fortune through service

From you, through which dense darkness was illumined.

And for her army, through you, O commander, in battle,

There is a manifest victory scarcely to be matched.

And whoever among mankind you have known has protection

From every evil followed by loss.

And whoever you have sheltered has protection from calamities,

As long as a shadow inclines or a still thing stirs.

And whoever readies himself for combat faces death

That comes while the dawn of Mashrafi swords is overcast.

And how often, for the generous, noble steeds in battle,

The field's left and right flanks proved too narrow!

And mankind's praise of you is unanimous

Always, while for most mortals it is divided.

And how many a renegade has been struck by the meteor of your might,

Having forsaken his faith, treacherous in the pledges he makes.

And how many an armored warrior, valiant and full of prowess,

Has fled, only to be overtaken by fatal doom.

And how many a captive, from chains of humiliation,

You have freed, with hostages following him afterward.

And you pardoned your foes after victory,

And forgot what they had done—these are virtues.

So accept this peerless creation of thought, generously bestowed

On you in praise by the treasuries of the heart.

    فَهُوَ الكِفايةُ وَالثَوابُ الراهن

    And reward your servant for his praise by accepting it;

For that is sufficient, and is the reward at hand.

And in the hero's rank of lieutenant-general—and after it

Another rank—may you rejoice as long as the distant draws near.
