The birth of the midmorning sun at the year’s beginning—

The dawn of the new year's sun

At its dawn, I unfurled my banners for beauty.

Unfurled its banners for beauty in the morning

وَصادق الوَعد قَد زادَت مسرّتُه

وَصادق الوَعد قَد زادَت مسرّتُه

بِذات ثَغر نَفيس الدرّ بسام

بِذات ثَغر نَفيس الدرّ بسام

And the joy of the one true to his promise has increased

And the faithful promise increased his joy

Through a girl whose ever-smiling mouth bears precious pearls.

With the essence of a precious smile like a flower

أَثيلة المَجد عَن جدّ لَها وَأَب

أَثيلة المَجد عَن جدّ لَها وَأَب

وَعَن شَقيق بَديع الحُسن ضرغام

وَعَن شَقيق بَديع الحُسن ضرغام

Of deep-rooted glory, inherited from her grandfather and father,

Noble glory from her ancestors

And from a brother of wondrous beauty, a lion.

And from a charming brother, perfect in beauty

لازال طالعها بِالسَعد مقترناً

ما لاحَ بَدر الهَنا في خَير أَيام

ما لاحَ بَدر الهَنا في خَير أَيام

May her rising star ever be joined to good fortune,

Her rising fortune always accompanied

As long as the full moon of joy shines in the finest days,

By auspiciousness, since the appearance of the moon on blessed days

أَو قالَ إقبالها فيها يؤرخها

أَو قالَ إقبالها فيها يؤرخها

نَفيسةٌ شَمس حسن مجدها سامي

نَفيسةٌ شَمس حسن مجدها سامي

Or her good fortune speaks of her, dating her birth:

Or her prosperity in it dates her

Nafisa is a sun of beauty; her glory is lofty.

A precious sun, lofty is the glory of her beauty
