Rising stars of good fortune in a heaven of full moons

Shone for us in our dwellings on the day of joy.

And moons of glory, whose frowns had vanished,

Then lavished upon the world the most delightful light.

And a sun of greatness shone through Muhammad,

Scion of high honors, crown of every evening companion.

God bless him, a gallant man who trod his father's path,

Who built for glory in Egypt the strongest rampart.

So glad tidings to her, for she rose high through his presence,

And grew mighty through him since he became the finest counselor.

And blessed is she, since to her abode were restored

Her wares, in gladness and delight.

And Time came to her, repenting of his sin,

Attentive and obedient, after extreme aversion.

So she was unstinting in pardoning him, out of regard

For the clemency of a mighty, lionlike prince:

Fidelity's ally, the forbearing lord Muhammad,

The noblest hearer of appeals, and keen of sight,

And the noblest to bring smooth rock to life with his showers,

And he became the finest prince of beneficence.

And never once did he stray from right, nor incline

Toward anything wrong or reprehensible in his conduct.

How fine, then, his deeds and his qualities,

And his journey to the lord as a bearer of good news!

And how fortunate the one who now goes on foot

To a garden of flowers and inhales perfume!

And what a triumph for whoever reaches Muhammad's pools!

For those are pure waters, not a mirage in noonday heat.

This gallant man has indeed gained excellence and wisdom,

And glory, and boldness to resolve difficulties.

And with what he was given, he eclipsed Iyas and Ahnaf,

And Qays, sound in judgment, Zuhayr's peer.

And he traveled, eager to acquire knowledge,

Then returned, having far surpassed mankind.

So Egypt fell in love with him, and her passion grew,

And she poured out her grievance to him with deep sighs.

Then he said to her: Have patience under oppression and grief,

And do not lose heart before a tyrant or destroyer.

For very soon every anguish will be dispelled,

And together we shall strive to set affairs right.

Then, when those nights had passed, and there shone

The suns of Sa'id in a heaven of joy,

She appeared to him in a robe of fine silk,

And said to him: Welcome, finest of ministers!

O my lord, I have called to my aid

Your brother, and he answered me without falling short.

And he pledged to make his way to your abode, seeking

My welfare; I have not yet met my protector.

So grant me what he hopes for, and come to my aid,

For you know my circumstances best.

And but for my hope that you are coming today,

And that my return and destiny lie in the sanctuary,

I would have sworn that I would ever remain

In ignorance, not heeding a warner's words.

But I have breathed the fragrance of Muhammad

Ali, my prince, my master, and my champion.

So I yearned to gain knowledge, after

I had clung to ignorance and the drinking of wines.

So may my forbearing lord ever be guided

To goodness in this world, for the Day of Resurrection.

And may he ever shine among mankind through his goodness,

And soar in radiance above every shining one.

And may he say only to the fortunate one, marking the date:

So mine are the gladdest tidings of the chief of chiefs!
