O you who adorned yourself with learning and won renown,

and boasted of your eminence over Egypt's men of letters.

How excellent the chaste lady, who granted you a graceful boy!

O worthy man, he outshone the radiant full moon!

And he appeared on the twelfth of the fifth month of the

blessed year, and radiance spread from him.

And by bearing him in radiant Giza, she rose high

yesterday, Thursday, through him, and destiny aided her.

So I said, bearing glad tidings and recording the date:

Glad tidings of peerless Ahmad—he is the moon!
