O my friend, reproaching one consumed by longing is of no avail,
O my beloved, do not blame me for my passion,
In love with a supple beauty of graceful stature.
For one enamored by a graceful gazelle.

Do not blame me: my heart has become tormented
Do not reprimand me, for my heart has become,
By love for him, even though he sets himself to rebuff me.
Captivated by his love, even if opposed.

How can I find solace? The longer my separation
How can I forget, when lengthened is my estrangement,
And my rejection and anguish last, the greater my longing grows.
My obstacles, and my grief and passion increased?

How strange that I task myself with a disposition,
To which I would prefer dwelling in my grave.
Where staying without him became pleasant for me.

Its challenger died of rejection upon its shore.
None opposed its expanse survived.

And by my life, I have not said, if estrangement lengthened,
'O beauties, you have banished the sincerity of my affection.'
"O sailors, you have ended my sincerity and affection!"

With injustice, coldness, and transgression from him.
With his injustice, aloofness, and transgression.

Maybe through union he will one day pardon,
To a proud man humbled by long separation.
A loved one, whom remoteness long humbled.

Of pure wine, resembling a cheek:
Of sweet wine like a cheek.
