الآن أَنجزتِ الأَيامُ أَمالي

الآن أَنجزتِ الأَيامُ أَمالي

وَبِالقبول تَحلَّى جيد أَعمالي

وَبِالقبول تَحلَّى جيد أَعمالي

Now the days have fulfilled my hopes.

Now my hopes are fulfilled, days of yearning past

And the neck of my deeds has been adorned with acceptance.

With acceptance my deeds are adorned at last

وَالدَهر بِاليُمن وافاني وَأَنعم لي

وَالدَهر بِاليُمن وافاني وَأَنعم لي

بِما اِستَقام بِهِ تَأويد أَحوالي

بِما اِستَقام بِهِ تَأويد أَحوالي

And time has come to me with good fortune and favored me

Fate greeted me kindly and blessed me with ease

With that which straightened the crookedness of my affairs.

Granting continuity to my fortune's increase

حَيث المؤيد عرفان الزَمان أَتى

حَيث المؤيد عرفان الزَمان أَتى

مَع العَزيز سَعيد الدَولة العالي

مَع العَزيز سَعيد الدَولة العالي

When the favored Irfan of the age arrived

When the loyal vizier's time of knowing came

With the mighty, exalted Sa'id al-Dawla.

With the noble Sa'id, of lofty acclaim

فَيا لَها عَودة بِالفَوز مِن سَفر

فَيا لَها عَودة بِالفَوز مِن سَفر

في مَصر أَسفَر عَن عزٍّ وَإِجلال

في مَصر أَسفَر عَن عزٍّ وَإِجلال

So, what a triumphant return from a journey

Oh what a return, with triumph from travel

In Egypt that yielded glory and reverence!

To Egypt where glory and honor unravel

وَكَيفَ لا وَهوَ شَهمٌ نُورُ غرّته

وَكَيفَ لا وَهوَ شَهمٌ نُورُ غرّته

يَجلو غَياهب بُهتان وَإضلال

يَجلو غَياهب بُهتان وَإضلال

And how could it be otherwise? He is noble-hearted; the light of his brow

How not, when he's valiant, his radiance pure

Dispels the deep darkness of slander and misguidance.

Dispelling darkness, misguidance, unsure

وَهوَ الغذاء لِأَرواح بِهِ عُرفت

وَهوَ الغذاء لِأَرواح بِهِ عُرفت

سُبل الهِداية وَاِزدانَت بِإفضال

سُبل الهِداية وَاِزدانَت بِإفضال

And he is nourishment for souls; through him were made known

Sustenance he for souls, through him known

The paths of guidance, and they were adorned with bounty.

Ways of guidance, graced with favor fully shown

وَهوَ الجَدير مِن العَليا بِمرتبة

وَهوَ الجَدير مِن العَليا بِمرتبة

في الفَضل عَن والد شَهم وَعَن خالِ

في الفَضل عَن والد شَهم وَعَن خالِ

And he is worthy of a rank in the heights of glory,

Worthy he of high station, exceeding in grace

In merit inherited from a noble-hearted father and a maternal uncle.

His father heroic, and uncle of place

وَهوَ الشَهير بِإِقدام يدين لَهُ

وَهوَ الشَهير بِإِقدام يدين لَهُ

مِن الأسود الضَواري كُل رئبال

مِن الأسود الضَواري كُل رئبال

And he is famed for daring; to him submits

Renowned for bold deeds, to him lions concede

Every mighty lion among the ravening lions.

Of beasts ferocious, all made to recede

لا زالَ للملك المَسعود طالعه

لا زالَ للملك المَسعود طالعه

ملازماً في إِقامات وَترحال

ملازماً في إِقامات وَترحال

May his rising star ever remain with the fortunate king,

Ever destined for triumph the king's horoscope

A constant companion in sojourns and travels,

Constant in motions, and traveling's scope

ما غنت الورقُ مذ وافى مؤرخةً

ما غنت الورقُ مذ وافى مؤرخةً

للبر عَودة عرفانٍ بإِقبال

للبر عَودة عرفانٍ بإِقبال

As long as the gray doves sing, since his arrival, marking the date:

Not since the leaves sang, chronicling the best

"For goodness: Irfan's auspicious return."

Of returns, good fortune's welcome bequest
