Is it starlight, or a countenance's lightning gleam,

That appeared in spring and scoffed at the crescent moons?

Or is it the sun, from which the full moon's face shone,

And grew in radiance and splendor with delight?

Or is it Mustafa, the most radiant, the chosen, the fortunate,

Who brought a marvel of beauty from the noblest flesh?

Thus this grandson came to take pride in his grandfather,

Abu al-Majd Haji, a man of generosity and chivalry.

And in his resplendent Egypt, the rising star of his fortune

Shone in Sa'id's age, on a horizon of purity.

So I said, offering birth congratulations and recording the date:

Ali was graced with praise for the noblest advent.
