In the gardens of Tunis, for Imam al-Sadiq,

Lofty in rank, the gardens' lips broke into smiles.

And nightingales sang above the boughs

In his praise, with wondrous, surpassing verse.

And they began to warble praise of him in

Their melodies, with lofty, limpid prose.

And ears are adorned with descriptions of him,

With recurring strains that put a speaker's speech to shame.

And they say in his exalted presence, at a gathering

Of every dignitary enamored of noble deeds:

O king who has flooded humankind

With pouring rain from the bounty of his palm,

And with that bounty from him, his country's neck was adorned,

And through him rose higher in later days than in earlier ones.

And in his reign her days grew serene,

With prosperity plain to the beholder's eye.

And sovereignty and the upright faith were adorned

By his light within her, with a rising sun's countenance.

And lions bow in prostration before his sword

On every battlefield as dark as night.

And they fear every man unerring in his judgment,

Among all the gallant men confident of hitting the mark,

Among all the lions serving as ministers,

Whose planning makes one forget Tariq's battles.

And they fear the onslaught of every valiant adversary,

Hard to bridle, skilled in swordplay.

For victory is bound to his banner, which

Rises above the banners of every contender.

And excellence bears witness that he is worthier of it

Than all others in the lands of West and East.

Glad tidings to you from the month of fasting, of all you wish:

A return spent in obedience to the Creator,

And a thousand feasts—may you ever remain blessed

During them, with sovereignty attended by good fortune,

As long as Majdi speaks in joy, composing a chronogram:

A feast shone with the rising of the name Sadiq.
