تعاميت في دين الهَوى فَكَأَنَّني

تعاميت في دين الهَوى فَكَأَنَّني

ضَرير قَد استغنيت فيهِ عَن الزيت

ضَرير قَد استغنيت فيهِ عَن الزيت

I feigned blindness in the creed of love, as though I were

I have delved into the religion of passion as if

a blind man who has no need of oil therein.

I were blind, dispensing with oil lamps,

وَعاديت أَبناء الغَرام وَأَهله

وَعاديت أَبناء الغَرام وَأَهله

وَقاطَعت مَن والى ولو كانَ مِن بَيتي

وَقاطَعت مَن والى ولو كانَ مِن بَيتي

And I opposed the sons of passion and its people,

And declared war against the scions of love and its adherents,

and cut ties with whoever sided with them, even if he belonged to my household.

Shunning even those devoted to it, were they of my own clan.
