At times, al-inkīs is red;

From moments of gloom, depression has its redness

whiteness faces it without aid.

Met by whiteness with no triumph

وَداخل نصرة الرايات قامَت

وَداخل نصرة الرايات قامَت

عَلى عَتَبات جودلة بكرّه

عَلى عَتَبات جودلة بكرّه

And within victory, the banners rose

And inside the triumph of banners stood

upon the thresholds of Jawdala, in a charge.

On the thresholds of Godela at dawn

نقي الخَد في الأحشاء قَبضٌ

نقي الخَد في الأحشاء قَبضٌ

لَهُ مِن داخل وَعَلَيهِ كَسرَه

لَهُ مِن داخل وَعَلَيهِ كَسرَه

Pure of cheek, with a constriction in its entrails,

Pure of cheek in the viscera a fist

it has this within, and upon it lies a break.

Inside it and over it - his loss

وَخارج قَبضه جَمعٌ لعقل

عَلَيهِ الاجتِماع طَريق حَسرَه
