للخديوي في مصر عيدُ إِمامِ

لَستُ أُحصي أَوصافه في إِمامِ

لَستُ أُحصي أَوصافه في إِمامِ

For the Khedive in Egypt, a leader’s feast.

The Khedive in Egypt has an Eid festival,

I cannot enumerate his qualities in a book.

I cannot enumerate his virtues in an Imam.

أَيد اللَه دَولة سادَ فيها

أَيد اللَه دَولة سادَ فيها

بِالمَعالي عَلى مُلوك الأَنام

بِالمَعالي عَلى مُلوك الأَنام

May God strengthen the realm in which he surpassed

May God support a state in which he prevailed

Through lofty deeds, the kings of humankind.

With glories over the kings of all people.

وَرَعاه لملكِ خَير بِلادٍ

وَرَعاه لملكِ خَير بِلادٍ

ساس فيها جُنودَه باهتمام

ساس فيها جُنودَه باهتمام

And may He protect him to rule the best of lands,

And protect him for the good of the best of lands,

Where he commanded his troops with care,

Whose troops he managed with care.

وَبَنى للأَمان فيها قِلاعاً

وَبَنى للأَمان فيها قِلاعاً

خافَها جَيشُ كُل لَيث همام

خافَها جَيشُ كُل لَيث همام

And built fortresses there for security,

And built fortresses for security in it,

Feared by the army of every valiant lion.

Feared by the army of every ferocious lion.

ما هِلال بَدا لعيدٍ سَعيدٍ

ما هِلال بَدا لعيدٍ سَعيدٍ

في سَماء السُرور غب الصِيام

في سَماء السُرور غب الصِيام

So long as a crescent appears for a joyful feast

No crescent appeared for a happy Eid

In the sky of joy, after the fast.

In the sky of joy after fasting.

وَاِزدَهى في عُلومه بذكاء

وَاِزدَهى في عُلومه بذكاء

طوسن شبله عقيب الفِطام

طوسن شبله عقيب الفِطام

And in his learning he shone with intelligence—

And he excelled in his intelligence with acumen,

Tusun, his lion cub, just after weaning.

Like a lion cub after weaning.

وَتحلّى بِمَدح عَلياه عبدٌ

وَتحلّى بِمَدح عَلياه عبدٌ

مُخلص في الدعا بِطُول الدَوام

مُخلص في الدعا بِطُول الدَوام

And a servant adorned himself by praising his lofty glory,

And a loyal servant adorned with praising his Highness,

Sincere in praying that he may long endure.

With lifelong prayer.

لا يَزال العلا يُناديه أَرِّخ

لا يَزال العلا يُناديه أَرِّخ

للخديوي في مصر عيد إِمام

Glory never ceases to call to him: “Compose a chronogram!”
