لسوّارٍfor Sawwār عَلىagainst الأَعداءِthe enemies سَيفٌa sword
أَبادَannihilated ذَويthose possessing العَدوَةِenmity فَاِضمَحَلّواso they vanished
Sawwār has a sword against his enemies,
A sword for Al Suwar upon the enemies,
It annihilated those who bore enmity, and they vanished.
Destroyed the hostile people so they withered away.
لَقَدindeed زَلَّتfell رِقابُهُمtheir necks بِصُغرٍin humiliation
فَصادَمهمthen he struck them شَديدُfierce البَأسِmight صِلُّa venomous serpent
Their necks indeed fell in humiliation;
Their necks certainly bent with insignificance,
Then a venomous serpent, fierce in battle, struck them.
So the mighty warrior collided with them.
سَقاهُمhe made them drink كَأسَa cup حَتفٍdeath بَعدَafter كَأسٍa cup
بِهاfrom it نَهَلَdrank a first draught العَبيدُthe slaves مَعاًtogether وَعَلُّواand drank again
He made them drink cup after cup of death;
He gave them a cup of death after a cup,
From it the slaves took their first draught together, then drank again.
With it the slaves and the nobles drank together.
وَقَدand indeed رُفِعَتwas raised لسوّارٍfor Sawwār قَناةٌa spear
بِهاby it خَضَعَتbowed رِقابُهُمtheir necks وَذَلّواand they were humbled
And a spear was indeed raised for Sawwār;
And a canal was built for Al Suwar,
By it their necks bowed, and they were humbled.
With it their necks submitted and they were humiliated.
قَناةُthe spear المَجدِof glory مَركَزُهاits footing عَزيزٌunassailable
حَماهاhe guarded it مَانِعٌa defender لاnot يُستَذَلُّis humbled
The spear of glory has an unassailable footing;
The canal of glory has a dear center,
A defender who cannot be humbled has guarded it.
Protected by an undefeatable guardian.
قتلتyou killed بواحدٍfor one سوَّارO Sawwār ألفاًa thousand
وألفهمُand a thousand of them بواحِدناfor one of ours يَقِلُّfalls short
You killed a thousand for one, Sawwār,
Al Suwar killed a thousand with one,
And a thousand of them are too few for one of ours.
While their thousand against our one are few.
فَأَكثَرُso most of قَتلِناour killing لهُمof them حَلالٌlawful
بِماbecause of what اِرتَكَبوهُthey committed it ظُلماًunjustly وَاِستَحَلّواand deemed lawful
So most of our killing of them is lawful,
So our abundant killing of them is lawful,
Because of what they committed unjustly and deemed lawful.
Due to their injustice and unlawfulness.
أَضافَcame as a guest إِلَيهمُto them رَجُلٌa man تَقِيٌّpious
فَجاؤواthen they committed فيهِagainst him أَمراًa deed ماnot يَحِلُّis lawful
A pious man came to them as a guest;
A pious man joined them,
Then they committed an unlawful deed against him.
So they came in a matter that is not lawful.
فَأَوردناso we brought رِقابَهُمtheir necks سُيوفاًswords
تَشُبُّblazes النّارُthe fire مِنهاfrom them إِذwhen تُسَلُّare drawn
So we brought their necks to swords;
So we inflicted their necks with swords,
Fire blazes from them when they are drawn.
Fire sparks from them when they are unsheathed.
فَقَدso indeed سُفِكَتwas shed دِماؤُهُمtheir blood وَطُلَّتand went unavenged
وَلَيسَand there is no لَناof ours دَمٌblood يَوماًever يُطَلُّgoes unavenged
So their blood was indeed shed and left unavenged,
Their blood was shed and sought,
And no blood of ours ever goes unavenged.
While our blood is never sought.
رَواقُthe canopy المَجدِof glory مَضروبٌpitched عَلَيناover us
مَنيعُimpregnable الجانِبَينِon both sides فَماso it does not يَزِلُّtotter
The canopy of glory is pitched over us,
The porch of glory is struck upon us,
Impregnable on both sides, so it does not totter.
Impregnable on both sides so it never declines.
سَمَوناwe rose فَوقَabove عَرشِthe throne المَجدِof glory قِدماًlong ago
وَعَرشُand the throne المَجدِof glory فيهِon it لَناfor us المَحَلُّthe place
We rose above the throne of glory long ago,
We reached above the throne of glory on foot,
And on the throne of glory lies our place.
And the throne of glory belongs fully to us.
وَرثناwe inherited المَجدَglory عَنfrom آباءِforefathers صِدقٍintegrity
وَإِرثكمand your inheritance بَنيO sons of العُبدانِthe slaves ذُلُّhumiliation
We inherited glory from upright forefathers,
We inherited glory from fathers of honesty,
And your inheritance, sons of slaves, is humiliation.
While your inheritance, O sons of slaves, is humiliation.
وَأَخضَعناand we bowed رِقابَكُمُyour necks فَذَلَّتso they were humbled
فَلَيسَتso they will not ماas long as حَييتُمyou live تَستَقِلُّrise
And we bowed your necks, so they were humbled;
And we subjugated your necks so they were humiliated,
So as long as you live, they will not rise.
Never while you live will they become independent.
