كُنّا وَأَسبابُ الهَوى مُتَّفِقَه

كُنّا وَأَسبابُ الهَوى مُتَّفِقَه

نَبتاً مِنَ الوَردِ مَعاً في وَرَقَه

نَبتاً مِنَ الوَردِ مَعاً في وَرَقَه

We were, while love's bonds were in accord,

We and the causes of passion once agreed

rose shoots together on a single leaf.

Like roses and leaves that on one stem feed

فَالآنَ اِذ أَسبابُهُ مُفتَرَقَه

فَالآنَ اِذ أَسبابُهُ مُفتَرَقَه

قَد صارَت الأَرضُ عَلَينا حَلَقَه

قَد صارَت الأَرضُ عَلَينا حَلَقَه

So now, since its bonds are sundered,

But now as those causes are parted from me

the earth has become a ring around us.

The earth has become a strangling snare indeed
