إِنَّ القداحَ أَمرُها عَجيبُ

إِنَّ القداحَ أَمرُها عَجيبُ

الفَذُّ وَالتَوأَمُ وَالرَقيبُ

الفَذُّ وَالتَوأَمُ وَالرَقيبُ

Truly, the affair of the gaming arrows is wondrous:

Indeed, the affair of the lot-arrows is wondrous:

al-Fadhdh, al-Tawʾam, and al-Raqīb;

Al-Fadhdh, al-Taw’am, and al-Raqīb,

وَالحِلسُ ثُمَّ النافِسُ المُصيبُ

وَالحِلسُ ثُمَّ النافِسُ المُصيبُ

وَالمصفح المُشتَهر النَجيبُ

وَالمصفح المُشتَهر النَجيبُ

and al-Ḥils, then al-Nāfis, the unerring one;

And al-Ḥils, then al-Nāfis, the winning one,

and al-Muṣaffaḥ, renowned and noble;

And al-Muṣfaḥ, the renowned, noble one,

ثُمَّ المُعَلّى حَظُّهُ التَرغيبُ

ثُمَّ المُعَلّى حَظُّهُ التَرغيبُ

هاكَ فَقَد جاءَ بِها التَرتيبُ

هاكَ فَقَد جاءَ بِها التَرتيبُ

then al-Muʿallā—its share is the coveted prize.

Then al-Muʿallā—its share is an enticement.

There you have them: the sequence has set them forth.

Here you are: the sequence has indeed brought them forth.
