There is no creed among the creeds upon the face of the earth

that does not shrink from a Muʿtazilite's questioning.

A people who, when they debate, strike with their argument,

as hawks strike at francolins and partridges.

God bless them for their learning and knowledge,

and their acumen in the sciences of truth and dialectic!
