أَتانيَ البَدرُ باكِياً خَجلاً

أَتانيَ البَدرُ باكِياً خَجلاً

فَقُلتُ ماذا دَهاكَ يا قَمَرُ

فَقُلتُ ماذا دَهاكَ يا قَمَرُ

The full moon came to me, weeping and ashamed.

The full moon came to me weeping bashfully

So I said, “What has befallen you, O moon?”

I said "What has made you so sad, oh moon?"

قالَ غَزالٌ أَتى لِيَعزلني

قالَ غَزالٌ أَتى لِيَعزلني

بِحُسنِهِ فَالفُؤادُ منفَطِرُ

بِحُسنِهِ فَالفُؤادُ منفَطِرُ

He said, “A gazelle has come to depose me

It said "A gazelle came to outshine me

with his beauty, so my heart is breaking.”

With its beauty, so my heart is torn"

فَقُلتُ قُبِّل ترابَهُ عجلاً

فَقُلتُ قُبِّل ترابَهُ عجلاً

وَاِسجُد لَهُ قالَ كلُّ ذا غَرَرُ

وَاِسجُد لَهُ قالَ كلُّ ذا غَرَرُ

So I said, “Kiss his dust in haste,

I said "Kiss its dust hastily

and prostrate yourself before him.” He said, “All this is peril.

And prostrate to it" It said "This is all nonsense

قَد بايَعت أَنجُمُ السَماءِ لَهُ

قَد بايَعت أَنجُمُ السَماءِ لَهُ

فَلَيسَ لي مُفزِعٌ وَلا وَزَرُ

فَلَيسَ لي مُفزِعٌ وَلا وَزَرُ

The stars of heaven have already pledged allegiance to him,

The stars of the sky have pledged allegiance to it

so I have no rescuer and no refuge.”

So I have no recourse or authority"
