O builder of the palace—rather, of lofty glory!

Your ambition and the star Farqad are equals.

You did not build this palace; rather, you fashioned it

as a crown upon the head of Jurjan.

And your palace, built before this one,

is your kingdom, and God Himself is its builder.

So accept your servant's scattered pearls—rather, his strung verse,

for it and pearls are alike.

And hear a saying whose like has never been spoken

to anyone since the world began:

    If creation had two gods,

Fakhr al-Dawla would be the second.
