اِنظُرLook إِلىat وَجهِthe face of أَبيAbu (father of) زَيدِZayd
اِنظُر إِلى وَجهِ أَبي زَيدِ
أَوحشmore forbidding منthan حَبسٍa prison وَمنand than قَيدِa shackle
أَوحش من حَبسٍ وَمن قَيدِ
Look at the face of Abu Zayd,
More forbidding than a prison and a shackle.
وَحوشهُhis wild beasts تَرتَعُgraze فيin ثَوبِهِhis garment
وَحوشهُ تَرتَعُ في ثَوبِهِ
وَظفرُهُand his fingernail يَركَبrides لِلصَّيدِfor the hunt
وَظفرُهُ يَركَب لِلصَّيدِ
His wild beasts graze in his garment,
And his fingernail rides out to hunt.
