لَقَدindeed قُلتُI said لماwhen أَتواthey came بِالطَبيبِwith the physician
لَقَد قُلتُ لما أَتوا بِالطَبيبِ
وَصادَفَنيand he found me فيin أَحرِّthe fiercest heat of اللَهيبِthe blaze
وَصادَفَني في أَحرِّ اللَهيبِ
Indeed I said, when they brought the physician,
and he found me amid the fiercest blaze,
وَداوىand he treated me فَلَمbut did not أَنتَفِعI benefit بِالدَواءfrom the medicine
وَداوى فَلَم أَنتَفِع بِالدَواء
دَعونيleave me فَإِنfor indeed طَبيبيmy physician حَبيبيmy beloved
دَعوني فَإِن طَبيبي حَبيبي
and treated me, but the medicine brought me no relief:
Leave me, for my physician is my beloved.
وَلَستُand I am not أُريدُI want طَبيبَa physician of الجسومِbodies
وَلَستُ أُريدُ طَبيبَ الجسومِ
وَلكِنand yet أُريدُI want طَبيبَa physician of القُلوبِhearts
وَلكِن أُريدُ طَبيبَ القُلوبِ
And I do not want a physician of bodies,
but I want a physician of hearts.
وَلَيسَand not يزيلdispels سِقاميmy sickness سِوىexcept
وَلَيسَ يزيل سِقامي سِوى
حُضورِthe presence of الحَبيبِthe beloved وَبُعدand the remoteness of الرَقيبِthe watcher
حُضورِ الحَبيبِ وَبُعد الرَقيبِ
And nothing dispels my sickness except
the beloved's presence and the watcher's absence.
