عَلِيٌّ كَالغَزالِ أَو الغَزالَه

عَلِيٌّ كَالغَزالِ أَو الغَزالَه

رَأَيتُ بِهِ هِلالا في غلالَه

رَأَيتُ بِهِ هِلالا في غلالَه

Ali is like a gazelle—or the sun.

Ali is like a gazelle or a lovely gazelle

I saw in him a crescent moon in a thin tunic.

I saw in him a crescent moon in its darkness

كَأَنَّ بَياضَ غُرَّتِهِ رَشادٌ

كَأَنَّ بَياضَ غُرَّتِهِ رَشادٌ

كَأَنَّ سَوادَ طُرَّتِهِ ضَلالَه

كَأَنَّ سَوادَ طُرَّتِهِ ضَلالَه

As though the whiteness of his brow were right guidance,

As if the whiteness of his face is evidence

As though the blackness of his forelock were going astray.

As if the blackness of his hair is misguidance

كَأَنَّ اللَهَ أَرسَلَهُ نَبِيّاً

كَأَنَّ اللَهَ أَرسَلَهُ نَبِيّاً

وَصَيَّرَ حُسنَهُ أَقوى دَلالَه

وَصَيَّرَ حُسنَهُ أَقوى دَلالَه

As though God had sent him as a prophet

It's as if God sent him as a prophet

And made his beauty the strongest proof.

And made his beauty the strongest proof

اِذا ما زِدتَ وَصلاً زُدتُ خبلاً

اِذا ما زِدتَ وَصلاً زُدتُ خبلاً

كَأَنَّ حِبالَ وَصلِكَ لي خبالَه

كَأَنَّ حِبالَ وَصلِكَ لي خبالَه

Whenever you grant more closeness, I grow more crazed,

If you increase connection, I increase madness

As though the cords of closeness to you were madness for me.

It's as if the ropes of your connection are my madness
