مُطَفِّلٍ أَطفل من أَشعبٍ

مُطَفِّلٍ أَطفل من أَشعبٍ

ما زالَ مَحروماً وَمَذموما

ما زالَ مَحروماً وَمَذموما

A greater freeloader than Ashʿab

A poor child from the glens

remains deprived and reviled.

Still deprived and condemned

لَو أَنَّهُ جاءَ الى مالِكٍ

لَو أَنَّهُ جاءَ الى مالِكٍ

لَقالَ أَطعِمنِيَ زَقّوما

لَقالَ أَطعِمنِيَ زَقّوما

Were he to come to Mālik,

Had he come to a tyrant

he would say, “Feed me zaqqūm.”

He'd say "Feed me, you wicked man!"
