أَومِض بِبَرقِ الأَضلُعِ

واسكُب غَمامَ الأَدمُعِ

Flash with the lightning of the ribs,

Flash with the lightning of ribs

And pour out the clouds of tears.

And pour the clouds of tears

وَاحزَن طَوِيلاً وَاجزَعِ

وَاحزَن طَوِيلاً وَاجزَعِ

فَهوَ مَكَانُ الجَزَعِ

فَهوَ مَكَانُ الجَزَعِ

And grieve long, and give way to anguish,

And grieve long and wail

For it is the place for anguish.

For it is the place of wailing

وانثُر دِمَاءَ المُقلَتَينِ

وانثُر دِمَاءَ المُقلَتَينِ

تَأَلّما عَلَى الحُسَين

تَأَلّما عَلَى الحُسَين

And scatter the blood of both eyes,

And scatter the blood of the two eyelids

In anguish over al-Husayn.

Agonizing over Al-Hussain

وابكِ بدمعٍ دونَ عَين

وابكِ بدمعٍ دونَ عَين

إِن قَلَّ فَيضُ الأَدمُعِ

إِن قَلَّ فَيضُ الأَدمُعِ

And weep with tears without an eye,

And weep with a tear without an eye

If the outpouring of tears dwindles.

If the outpouring of tears is scarce
