وَفي النَيلِ إِذ وَفّى البَسيطَةَ حَقَّها

وَفي النَيلِ إِذ وَفّى البَسيطَةَ حَقَّها

وَزادَ عَلى ما جاءَهُ مِن صَنائِعِ

وَزادَ عَلى ما جاءَهُ مِن صَنائِعِ

And in the Nile, when it gave the earth her due,

When the Nile fulfilled what was due

and surpassed the favors it had received—

To the plain, giving more than he owed,

فَما إِن تَوَفّى الناسُ مِن شُكرِ مُنعِمَ

فَما إِن تَوَفّى الناسُ مِن شُكرِ مُنعِمَ

يُشارُ إِلى إِنعامِهِ بِالأَصابِعِ

يُشارُ إِلى إِنعامِهِ بِالأَصابِعِ

for people have never fully thanked a benefactor

Men failed to thank the benefactor

whose bounty is pointed out by fingers.

And pointed to his gifts with their fingers
