أَضحى بِها مَعروفُ حُسنِكَ مُنكَرا

They saw your fur coat and scorned you for a condition

They looked upon your youth and scorned you for a state

Through which your acknowledged beauty became unrecognized.

In which your well-known beauty had become denied.

كُلُّ أَدارَ الطَرفَ عَنكَ مُحاوِلاً

كُلُّ أَدارَ الطَرفَ عَنكَ مُحاوِلاً

صَيداً وَكُلِّ الصَيدِ في جَوفِ الفَرا

صَيداً وَكُلِّ الصَيدِ في جَوفِ الفَرا

Each turned his gaze away from you, seeking

All turned their eyes from you, attempting

Game—though all game is in the belly of the wild ass.

Prey, while all prey was in the wild beast's inside.
