فَقُلتُso I said هَيهاتَimpossible! أَمرٌa matter لَيسَis not يَنكَتِمُconcealed
فَقُلتُ هَيهاتَ أَمرٌ لَيسَ يَنكَتِمُ
They said, “The hour is free—drink it, but warily.”

I said, “Impossible! This is a matter that cannot be concealed.

كَيفَhow السَبيلُthe way وَكُلٌّand every حينٍtime يَشرَبُهاhe drinks it
كَيفَ السَبيلُ وَكُلٌّ حينٍ يَشرَبُها
يَجولُcourses فيin وَجهِهِhis face بَعدَafter الصَفارِthe pallor دَمُblood
يَجولُ في وَجهِهِ بَعدَ الصَفارِ دَمُ
What way is there, when everyone, upon drinking it,
How can it be done, when every time he drinks it,
has blood course through his face after pallor?”
