They beheld the crescent moon, exalted it, and proclaimed its greatness,

Until you unveiled your face, and it was said: “This is greater.”

And they realized that in this they had erred,

So each came to you repentant, seeking forgiveness.

O paradise where the lover burns in blazing fire,

And dies of thirst, though al-Kawthar is within it.

You have made me abide forever in the fire of your love:

A heart melts, and tears stream down.

    نارُ الصَبابَةِ حَولَهُ تَتَسَعَّرُ

    So my heart is, in truth, like a cauldron;

The fire of passionate longing blazes around it.

So when [vapor] rises around it with each breath,

It sends tears to my eye, and they drip.
