كَفَرضِ الصَلاةِ فَروضُ الصِلاتِ

كَفَرضِ الصَلاةِ فَروضُ الصِلاتِ

وَمَطلُ العِداتِ كَحَربِ العُداةِ

وَمَطلُ العِداتِ كَحَربِ العُداةِ

The duties of giving gifts are like the duty of prayer;

The prayers are obligatory like the obligations of prayers

and delaying the fulfillment of promises is like war against foes.

And fulfilling promises is like fighting the enemies

وَمَن جادَ بَعدَ تَمادي المَطالِ

وَمَن جادَ بَعدَ تَمادي المَطالِ

فَإِنَّ العَطِيَّةَ أَجرُ السُعاةِ

فَإِنَّ العَطِيَّةَ أَجرُ السُعاةِ

And whoever gives after prolonged delay,

And whoever is generous after being stingy

then the gift is the wages of those who sought it.

Indeed the gift is the wage of the seekers

فَكيفَ اِمرُؤٌ جالَ في فِكرِهِ

فَكيفَ اِمرُؤٌ جالَ في فِكرِهِ

بِأَنَّ المَطالَ سَفينُ الحَياةِ

بِأَنَّ المَطالَ سَفينُ الحَياةِ

So how could a man entertain the thought

So how is a man confused in his thoughts

that procrastination is life's fleet,

That procrastination is the ship of life

وَلَم يَعتَرِف أَنَّ ماءَ الحَياءِ

وَلَم يَعتَرِف أَنَّ ماءَ الحَياءِ

عِندَ الكِرامِ كَماءِ النَجاةِ

عِندَ الكِرامِ كَماءِ النَجاةِ

yet not acknowledge that the water of modesty

And does not admit that the water of bashfulness

is to the noble like the water of salvation?

With the generous is like the water of salvation
