فَسَدَ الشَربُ حينَ أَعوَزَتِ الرا

فَسَدَ الشَربُ حينَ أَعوَزَتِ الرا

حُ وَحالَت قَواعِدُ النَدمانِ

حُ وَحالَت قَواعِدُ النَدمانِ

The drinking company was ruined when wine grew scarce,

The drink turned foul when the wind lacked moisture

and the boon companion's customs changed.

And the foundations of comfort were disturbed

وَحَقيقٌ إِذا تَعَذَّرَتِ الشَم

وَحَقيقٌ إِذا تَعَذَّرَتِ الشَم

سُ فَسادُ النَباتِ وَالحَيوانِ

سُ فَسادُ النَباتِ وَالحَيوانِ

And when the sun is absent, it is only natural

Truly when the sun is veiled, decay befalls

that plants and animals should perish.

Plants and animals alike

فَتَصَدَّق بِقَهوَةٍ إِن تَجَلَّت

فَتَصَدَّق بِقَهوَةٍ إِن تَجَلَّت

في الأَواني ظَنَنتَ فيها الأَواني

في الأَواني ظَنَنتَ فيها الأَواني

So give wine as alms: if it gleams

So if coffee appears in the cups

in the vessels, you would think the vessels were within it.

You'd think the cups themselves had turned black
